Acuatours Ltd is an agent for Blue Wilderness. They are South Africa’s premier
shark encounter company and have a number of exciting programs
offering shark encounter expeditions all along South Africa’s wild and
inspiring coastline. I joined a couple of expeditions last year and was so impressed by the way the tours are run and the encounters available are so unique that I decided I wanted to help to promote their programs.

The mainstay of the Blue Wilderness popularity is at Aliwal Shoal near the Durban coastline. Aliwal shoal is the only place in the world other than Tiger Beach where you can regularly dive with Tiger sharks in a cageless environment. The water there is warm and clear, and the shark species on hand throughout the year vary from season to season. The ever present group of blacktips make for superb viewing year round whilst the Tigers and Ragged Tooth sharks are present on a more seasonal basis. Other shark species include Bull sharks and Whale sharks.

Blue Wilderness offers other high adreneline shark encouters including the renowned and exclusive Ultimate Sharks itinerary down on the cape which includes encounters with White Sharks, Mako Sharks, Copper and Dusky Sharks, Ragged Tooth Sharks and numbers of endemic cat and hound sharks.

The emphasis on these tours is uninterupted, first hand, once in a lifetime encounters with the ocean’s most inspiring animals. Many of the tours are feediving based and there are several opportunities in the Blue Wilderness
camp to gain introduction or improvement courses in the freediving discipline.
